Martin and Gina broke up because Martin did not want to commit. Gina had begun to pressure him and when she realized how desperate it made her seem, she decided to call it quits. She left Detroit, where they were living at the time, to move to NYC. Martin did not realize how much he would miss her so he started learning techniques for covert hypnosis so that he could convince Gina to come back to Detroit to be with him. He couldn’t afford to move and it was really easier for her to move with her job back to Detroit than for him to quit his job.
